Surgery A Success!
The following statement was released to the press today.
Kentucky Supreme Court Justice McAnulty Recovering Following Surgery
Brain Surgery performed July 11, 2007 at Jewish HospitalLouisville, KY (July 12, 2007)…Kentucky Supreme Court Justice William E. McAnulty, Jr., underwent brain surgery at Jewish Hospital on Wednesday, July 11. The 59 year-old Justice was diagnosed with lung cancer a little more than two weeks ago, which had also spread to the brain. The surgery, which lasted a little more than one hour, was performed by neurosurgeon Wayne G. Villanueva, M.D. “A ‘gross total resection’ was performed on Justice McAnulty to remove a lesion from the base of the cranium,” said Villanueva. “It was metastasis to the brain from the lung cancer. He came through the surgery extremely well. We moved him to our intensive care unit following surgery, which is normal for this type of procedure. We plan to move him to a regular patient room today.”Following recovery from his July 11 surgery, medical oncologist Jeffrey Hargis will be coordinating planned chemotherapy and radiation therapy. “The next phase of his treatment should be starting later this month,” said Hargis. His wife Kristie said, “We appreciate the kind thoughts and prayers from everyone and are especially thankful for all the support we have received from family and friends. We also want to thank all the wonderful doctors and nurses involved for the great care he is receiving at Jewish Hospital.” McAnulty has four children, two grown children from a previous marriage and two younger children, ages four and 12. The McAnulty family will not be providing media interviews at this time.
We welcome your words of encouragement for the McAnulty family in the comments below or in the guestbook page on the right.

Dear Justice McAnulty,
My family and I don’t know you personally, but GOD does and He won’t put anything more on you than you can handle; and He will handle this for you. You are a great inspiration to all of Greater Louisville and elsewhere, just keep the faith and remember God is still moving all over the world. He sees and knows all when His children are suffering; my family will keep you in our daily prayers, not just for you alone, but for your entire family, because when you are suffering, they suffer also.
God Bless you and yours,
Mary Baskette and family

Bill,
Jim Amy Perry and Kelsey and I have been praying for you everyday since we heard about your tumor. You have made Louisville a better place and if anyone deserves a pardon it is you. You have helped my family and myself so many times with nothing but gratitude. Kelsy is 11 years old now and is beautiful and has very limited scarring from the dog bite. I can’t begin to thank you enough for the jobs you helped me with to court and Kelsey your support has been endless and selfless without ever giving it a thought that we wouldn’t be able to return the favor. Your truely an angel on earth and I fully believe that you will be rewarded greatly. God is going to bless you and heal you, and you will spend the rest of your days loving your family and being an angel in other ways. We love and respect you. May God protect and keep you and yours as you have so graciously done for me and mine. Sincerely Charlotte Snider

Mac –
If you didn’t like the job, you could have picked an easier way of avoiding it!
Seriously, we’re all cheering you on and wishing you well. Speedy, full recovery … and that’s an order (from which there’s no appeal).

Dear Judge McAnulty,
In my recent posting on the Web concerning your signing of an Opinion written by Judge Julia Tackett on Lawguru (Bluegrass Conspiracy) I mentioned that Tackett could use the defense of brain cancer for omitted vital law without disclosure.
This was written months before you were diagnosed and I truly wish you a full and speedy complete recovery.

Dear Judge McAnulty,
I have admired your career over the years as a nurse/family therapist. I am thinking of you and your family and hoping that your treatments are not too God awful. I had cancer myself years ago and recall how kind of scarey it can be. I know that the love and support of your family, friends, and our community must be very special to you at this time.
I will keep you in my prayers every day and pray that you stay comfortable and strong.
Thank you for dedicating your life to help create justice in our community, state and world. The world is truly a better place because of your work.
Sincerely,
Dr. Elizabeth Moran Fitzgerald (Lizzie)
