Bill’s Progress

The sad news that you have probably already heard or read is that Bill submitted his resignation to the Governor last week.  As you can imagine it was a difficult decision but one he felt was best for himself, his family, and the people of Kentucky.  Unfortunately he also suffered another setback and has been hospitalized for the last week with a broken collarbone he sustained in a fall.  The good news is he is feeling better and is scheduled to return home tomorrow (Monday) and will resume radiation therapy shortly.  The McAnultys sincerely appreciate the overwhelming outpouring of sympathy and support from all of you.  Bill has read every comment left here and is humbled by the positive things you have written about him and the impact he has had on all of our lives.  However, the next few weeks are going to be difficult for the entire family and they regrettably ask that you please send your continuing words of encouragement here in the comments rather than to them directly via phone or e-mail.  In return we promise to update his progress here more frequently so that you can be with him "virtually" every step of the way.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.  It brightens his days and makes the fight just that much more worthwhile.

Just wanted to let you know how much our office misses you. Our lunches and dinners without you during courtweek will not be the same, but we know you must take care of yourself and your family first. All of us here in Justice Scott’s chambers send you and your family our love, support, and prayers.

    Joseph L Hamilton Says:

Justice McNulty–Bill, I have been out of town extensively for the last several weeks, but I could not let news of your illness pass by without a deeply heartfelt note of encouragement and thanks. I remember our days at Confederate Place playing hoops at what we some of us always called Conferate Place Square Gardens with a great mix of great fun, humor and comraderie. We were in the trenches of law school and of being young parents together and the hoops were a great way to let off steam and get to know each other better. (By the way, my eight year old daughter, Claire, was at KCD last year with your son, Patrick, and she and my five year old son, Bruce, will both be there this 07-08 school year.) I have greatly admired the way you have approached your illness, with humor (I loved the Clarence Thomas and UK digs) and good cheer, and I only hope that I could have do something similar if called upon to do so. I wish you and your family all the best and please let me know, at any time of day or night, if there is anything I can do to assist in any way. Please have a safe, speedy and complete recovery and I am looking forward to seeing you again soon. Take care. Joe Hamilton.

Mac, I’m glad to hear that you’re out of the hospital — they won’t let you sleep in those places, in my experience. Please know that the good thoughts and prayers of many people are with you, including those of Tay and me.
